The shared accommodation, price, age, availability and general Galle stay details below are based on the verified Winter Scape program structure. Program-specific placement type, participant ages, daily duties, supervision requirements and activity schedule must be confirmed before this page goes live.

This program is intended to focus on art, creativity and organised activities with children in the Galle area.

The current shared Winter Scape program structure uses a fee of $180 per week, a minimum age of 17 and year-round availability, with weekday morning placements. Those shared details should only remain on this page if Winter Scape confirms that this specific program follows the same operating schedule.

What is the Art, Creativity & Children’s Activities Program?

This page should describe a supervised volunteer placement where participants help local staff run suitable art, craft, play or group activities for children.

Before publishing, confirm the exact placement. The source pack currently supports creative activities in other care settings, including arts, crafts and games, but it does not establish the operational details of a separate children’s art program.

Program-specific information required before publication

Confirm and replace this section with approved information covering:

  • the type and name of the local placement
  • the ages of participating children
  • whether activities take place in a school, community centre, care setting or another venue
  • the exact volunteer timetable
  • whether volunteers design activities or follow a local plan
  • what materials are available
  • supervision arrangements
  • safeguarding expectations
  • whether volunteers need previous experience
  • any prohibited activities or photography rules

Suggested activity categories once verified

Only publish activities confirmed by the placement. Possible categories to verify include drawing, painting, crafts, storytelling, group games, music, simple performance activities and preparation of reusable learning materials.

Avoid promising that every activity will run every week. The local placement should decide what is suitable for the children and current program.

Safeguarding and responsible participation

A children’s program needs clear boundaries. Volunteers should follow local staff instructions, avoid unsupervised activities unless explicitly authorised, respect photography rules and never publish children’s personal information.

The final CPT should include a dedicated safeguarding field rather than hiding this information in general page copy.

Accommodation and daily life in Galle

Volunteers stay at the Volunteer House at No. 24, Buonavista, Rumassala, Galle 80600. Each volunteer has a single air-conditioned room, and free Wi-Fi is available at the house.

The accommodation is around a five-minute tuk-tuk ride from Galle City. Breakfast and dinner are prepared daily. Meals are mainly Sri Lankan, with some Western dishes included in the weekly menu. Sri Lankan food can be spicier than some visitors are used to and may include seafood and meat. Vegetarian meals are available on request.

Western food and other dining options are easy to find in the Unawatuna area.

The daily routine at the Volunteer House starts with breakfast, with meditation included as part of the morning routine for volunteers who wish to take part.

Free time around Galle and Unawatuna

Regular volunteer hours finish in the morning, so afternoons are generally available for rest, local travel or personal plans. Weekends fall outside the usual Monday to Friday placement schedule.

Possible activities around the south coast include visiting Galle Fort, spending time at Unawatuna Beach, snorkelling or diving around Unawatuna, visiting Jungle Beach, travelling toward Mirissa, swimming at the Talpe Rock Pools, visiting Koggala Lake and exploring Kanneliya Rainforest.

Travel activities, entrance fees, tours and transport are separate unless they are specifically included in your confirmed arrangement.

Airport pickup

Airport pickup is provided for volunteers who commit to four weeks or more. If you plan a shorter stay, confirm your arrival transport before travelling so you know how you will get from the airport to Galle.

How to apply

  1. Choose this volunteer program.
  2. Select your preferred dates and planned length of stay.
  3. Complete the volunteer application.
  4. Wait for confirmation of your placement and stay arrangements.
